The November 21, 2015 Baltimore Association of Black Journalists’ meeting focused on freelancing. The panel at The Baltimore Sun  entitled “Freelance Isn’t Free” featured:

Marcus J. Moore, Print Journalist, Digital News Editor and Music Critic currently working for WTOP News, Pitchfork Media and the Washington Post.@MarcusJMoore

Donna Marie Owens, national journalist currently working as a Reuters correspondent, NPR,  Essence and The Baltimore Sun contributor.

The panel shared their stories with more than 20 members in attendance detailing how to win when negotiating freelance contracts and juggling multiple accounts. They also detailed methods to help attendees know how to earn every penny from permalance, contract and various employment positions by pitching multiple stories from the same event or issue.

Members were also offered tips on how to manage health, dental and life insurance benefits while maintaining a work-life balance.
