BABJ regrets to announce the death of Barbara Smith-Cox, news director at WNAV (1430AM) in Annapolis, Md.
Smith-Cox, who also served as morning news anchor, was found unresponsive in her Arnold, Md. home after she failed to report to work on the morning of Nov. 14. She was 55.
Smith-Cox, a Delaware native, came to Maryland from Florida where she worked in radio previously. She was hired at WNAV nearly a decade ago after visiting their both at a job fair at Anne Arundel Community College.
In 2011, Smith-Cox was diagnosed with breast cancer. After beating the disease, she became an advocate breast cancer with a special attention for African-Americans.
In addition to working for WNAV, she also had a stint with Magic 95.9 (WWIN-FM) in Baltimore.
Smith-Cox is survived by her husband, Lucien, and her son, Blake.
Funeral services will take place at the Holy Temple Church of God International, 708 Bestgate Road in Annapolis, on Saturday, November 22. The viewing is scheduled from 9:00-11:00 a.m. followed by a memorial service.
